#WORLDOCEANSDAY World Oceans Day is held every year on the 8th of June to raise awareness on the importance of our oceans, and the role we play in sustaining a healthy planet.
This global celebration brings people and organizations together across the globe in a series of events and activities highlighting how we can all help protect and conserve the oceans. Over the past years, luxury watch brands have incorporated sustainability into their businesses, embracing innovative means to bring about the reduction of their ecological footprint. Zakaa is proud to be associated with some of these maisons who have taken up their responsibilities to our planet, specifically to the ocean.
Superocean Heritage ‘57 Outerknown Special Edition.
Breitling has played its part in the protection of our ocean, supporting Ocean Conservancy, an advocate for the conservation of oceans, by conducting beach cleanups around the world and raising awareness of the problem of marine waste. The Swiss watch brand also creates limited edition watches to raise awareness around the future of our ocean.
An example is the Superocean Heritage ‘57 Outerknown Special Edition, a timepiece that features a special ECONYL yarn single-piece strap, repurposed from nylon waste pulled out from the oceans, like fishing nets.
Hublot proudly returns to their maritime roots while fulfilling their social responsibility, by partnering with the Polar Pod expedition. The Polar Pod expedition is a zero-emission ship tasked with exploring the Southern Ocean. The Polar Pod will be fitted with powerful instruments, making it possible to collect data on biodiversity, current dynamics, the impact of human pollution and the atmosphere-ocean interactions which control the climate. The construction of the Polar Pod will start in June 2022, with a launch date of late 2023. These watch manufactures serve as beacons to each of us to commit to the sustainability of our environment in every little way we can.
Happy World Oceans Day from Zakaa to you!
